Maryland SoccerPlex and
Holy Cross Germantown Hospital Renew Sponsorship
Boyds, Md. (April 25, 2016) – The Maryland SoccerPlex and Holy Cross Germantown Hospital have agreed to extend their partnership through 2016.
“When Holy Cross Germantown Hospital was opening we immediately thought a partnership would be beneficial for both of us, and more importantly to the community,” said Maryland SoccerPlex Executive Director Trish Heffelfinger. “In 2015 we were able to create several educational events for the community and we expect to build off of those efforts over the next year. Holy Cross Germantown Hospital’s commitment to improving health in the community through education, advocacy, innovation and resource commitment is truly admirable.”
In 2015, Holy Cross Germantown Hospital and the Maryland SoccerPlex created a series of free health seminars that kicked off on June 2 with a Diabetes Prevention seminar at the Discovery Sports Center. The highlight of these activities was October 10 at the 1st Annual OktoberPlex when Holy Cross Germantown Hospital brought its breast cancer awareness program out to the event. A portion of the OktoberPlex revenue benefited the program. Already scheduled at the Discovery Sports Center in 2016 are a seminar on summer safety for the whole family on June 14, and the very popular Girl Talk seminar on August 6 for pre-teen girls and their mothers.
“Collaborating with a strong center of community like the Maryland SoccerPlex allows Holy Cross Germantown Hospital to further share our medical and surgical services with upper Montgomery County residents," said Doug Ryder, president, Holy Cross Germantown Hospital. "Connecting with community members in this way affords us the opportunity to further improve health and expand access to high-quality health care services."

About the Maryland SoccerPlex and Discovery Sports Center
The Maryland SoccerPlex (www.mdsoccerplex.org - 18031 Central Park Circle, Boyds, MD 20841) features a combination of 22 professionally maintained, regulation-sized soccer fields, an award-winning stadium field and overall some of the safest facilities in the country. The SoccerPlex has been home to the Soccer Association of Montgomery (SAM) since 2005 and has programs for players from age 2 -18. In little more than a decade of existence SAM has established itself as one of the top programs in the region by providing superior development skills, educational soccer programs and sportsmanship to its players. Additionally, the SoccerPlex offers camps, classes and clinics all throughout the year run by professionally licensed coaches.
The Discovery Sports Center is the largest open indoor space in Montgomery County. The arena features 8 basketball and/or volleyball courts on a lined urethane surface from March to November. In November, two synthetic turf fields are rolled out complete with netting for indoor soccer, lacrosse, field hockey, baseball and rugby.
The mission of the SportsPlex is to create a fun, nurturing and safe environment for all participants. The focus on child safety was further enhanced in 2015 when the Concussion and Sudden Cardiac Arrest Management Policy (“CCAMP”) was introduced. The policy ensures the protection of players as well as the education of coaches, staff and families on concussion symptoms, treatment and prevention.
The Maryland SoccerPlex and Discovery Sports Center celebrated its 15th year of operation on Oct. 11, 2015.
